Cornerstone Earth Group, Inc. provided geotechnical engineering, geologic hazards evaluation, and geotechnical testing for the Milpitas Unified School District and the construction of the Mabel Mattos Elementary School. The new elementary school was developed in two phases. Phase 1 included a two-story administration building, a two-story classroom building, a quad with shade, a temporary warming kitchen, a play court, kinder play area, a trash enclosure, joint-use school/city soccer field, playground, basketball courts, and parking area, and improvements to the intersection of McCandless Drive and Delong Lane. Phase 2 included three two-story classroom buildings, a tall one story multipurpose/flex building with a kitchen, an outdoor dining area, a service yard, additional paved parking areas, and paved play/courtyard areas. The buildings have a combined footprint of approximately 35,300 square feet on a 10.2-acre site. The buildings are arranged around a paved courtyard with seating and raised planters. North of the buildings are joint use paved basketball courts, a playground, a turf soccer field, and a city park.
