Cornerstone Earth Group, Inc. provided geotechnical engineering, consultation, and construction observation and testing services for the Alexandria Center for Life Science located in San Carlos, CA. The development is one of the honorees in the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2021 Bay Area Structures real estate awards.
The Alexandria Center is a 552,000-square-foot flagship campus for bio-technology innovation and discovery featuring two six-story buildings, plus a six-story, 517,600-square-foot structure providing 1,510 parking spaces. The buildings were designed to integrate state-of-the-art life science and technology innovation labs, office space, and rooms dedicated to research and development.
The LEED Gold core/shell structure is spacious enough to hold cold rooms, biosafety level 2 labs, analytical labs, radioactive labs, and wet lab space. There is also an industrial nitrogen gas storage tank with an enclosed space for prefab chemical storage. The exterior facade was designed with energy conservation in mind. There is electrochromatic exterior glass throughout, which helps diminish solar heat gain while enhancing overall energy efficiency.
