Cornerstone Earth Group, Inc. is providing geotechnical consultation services for Meta in the development of a new Community Center in Menlo Park, CA. Cornerstone’s services include a geotechnical investigation, settlement and foundation recommendations, mitigation of highly expansive soils, a design level geotechnical report, observation and testing of mass grading, foundation observation, utility trench backfill, flatwork, and pavement asphalt compaction.
Building loads and fill placement as well as seismic settlement from liquefaction were considered in settlement calculations. Once final building loads were available, Cornerstone recalculated settlements which resulted in the building being supported on a mat foundation as opposed to originally planned ground improvement, which would have been more costly.
The Community Center will consist of an approximately 40,000 square-foot building and house a senior center with a senior lounge, a children’s library, a wellness center including a gym, a dance and yoga studio, and a youth center with a teen lounge. Outside the Community Center, plans call for a lap pool, an instructional pool, a splash pad, and a pool deck offering several shaded lawn areas. Other outdoor amenities will include a playground, parking, and improved access to nearby Kelly Park.
