We wanted to take a moment to give a big thank you to Matthew Supan, who has done a great job this summer as an intern with Cornerstone Earth Group, Inc. He is returning to San Jose State University to complete his final year before graduating in the Spring of 2023.
Being an avid outdoorsman, Matt was attracted to Cornerstone by the opportunity to work in the field as well as the office. While here, he was able to observe many of the different tasks that a staff engineer performs on a daily basis. He was amazed at how many different types of job sites we have, from residential to commercial, and from urban to suburban, and enjoyed the opportunity to travel around the Bay Area while working at the various sites.
In the office, he worked in the lab performing compaction curves, Atterberg limits and moisture densities. The time spent in the lab should definitely help his understanding of soil classification.
Asked for his overall impression of working at Cornerstone, Matthew said, “It’s a very supportive company. I came in knowing nothing, but if I needed to ask a Project Engineer or other staff member how something worked, they did not hesitate to show me. I would like to work here after I finish school if they asked me.”
Shown here are pictures of Matthew in the lab and in the field.
