At this site in Menlo Park, Cornerstone Earth Group, Inc. is shown implementing a composite soil sampling and processing program called Incremental Sampling Methodology (ISM). Cornerstone has learned that the sampling density afforded by collecting many increments, together with the disciplined processing and subsampling of the combined increments, in most cases yields more consistent and reproducible results than those obtained by more traditional (that is, discrete) sampling approaches. Overall, Cornerstone has found that ISM provides reliable and reproducible sampling results (and at a lower cost) while leading to less uncertainty and better and more defensible decisions than have typically been achieved with many traditional sampling approaches.
